The Wrap: Things Keep Getting Worse for Cal Football

Earlier in the week there was a tweeted rumor that 2017 starting Quarterback Ross Bowers was diagnosed with a broken thumb. This affected the way he threw the ball in practice and is the reason the coaching staff has not played him. While that may take some heat off the coaching staff’s decision to bench him, it does not excuse the horrendous play Cal has gotten at the position. It is one thing to be inefficient in the passing game and another to turn the ball over at a historic rate while still struggling to move the ball.

For the second straight game it was Brandon McIlwain who got the starting nod at quarterback.
