Much to the delight of Memorial Stadium, the California Golden Bears’ defense has made its presence known. The Stanford Cardinal punted on its first three drives in the second quarter.
California’s offense wasn’t the only squad affected by some malaise this quarter as neither side found themselves in the end zone.
California placekicker Greg Thomas converted from 40 and 24-yards out to keep the score respectable at 10-6. The latter score is Thomas’ sixth consecutive successful field goal.
But before halftime, Stanford capitalized on Malik McMorris’ fumble to set up a 19-yard field goal by Jet Toner.
