QB Zach Kline rejoins Cal football, linebacker Jake Kearney officially retires

Quarterback Zach Kline has returned to the Cal football roster as a walk-on.

Kline transferred from the school in December 2013. Kline is back on the team after redshirting the 2012 season and sitting on the bench in the 2013 season when then-freshman Jared Goff was chosen over Kline, who had been predicted as the starter.

Kline initially transferred to Oregon State, but after attending a few practices switched to Butte College, a community college where Aaron Rodgers played before attending Cal. The transfer had announced in December that he was coming back to UC Berkeley to get his degree, but it was unclear if he would be on the football team.
