Redshirt-freshman offensive-lineman Jasper Friis took to Twitter today to announce that he will “discontinue” his football career with the California Golden Bears, implying his intent to transfer and continue playing elsewhere.
Growing up in Germany, Friis moved to San Bernadino to play for two years at Aquinas High School and was considered a three-star prospect; at Cal, he intended to major in applied mathematics. After redshirting in 2018, he did not accumulate any stats in 2019.
Friis is our second mid-year departure after TE McCallan Castles left less than one month ago; last season, Biaggio Ali Walsh announced his intent to transfer between our regular-season finale (the postponed Big Game) and the Cheez-It Bowl.
