On Thursday night, the No. 20 Cal football team fell to Pac-12 rival UCLA, 40-16. With the loss, the Bears fall to 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in the Pac-12.
Despite the fact that the Bears started out the game with a 3-0 lead, they never were able to regain the advantage.
Both Cal’s offense and defense struggled in the game, which appeared never to feel comfortable or to get settled into the weekday matchup. Junior quarterback Jared Goff was grossly outplayed by UCLA’s freshman quarterback Josh Rosen in the match. Goff had three touchdowns in the game, 295 yards and no turnovers, unlike in last week’s performance in Utah, when the junior threw five interceptions.
