Two-way Cal baseball standout Lucas Erceg has transferred out of the program, an athletic department spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.
D1Baseball.com first reported the news.
Erceg has enrolled at Menlo College, an NAIA school in Atherton. He decided to leave after learning he was academically ineligible with the Bears, according to multiple reports.
It’s a significant blow for a Cal team fresh off an appearance in the College Station Regional championship game. As the Bears’ starting third baseman this past season, he hit .303 with 42 RBIs, 11 home runs and 38 runs en route to first team All-Pac-12 honors.
