Friday marks the start of Cal men’s basketball’s official practice schedule. As the Bears prepare for a season filled with promise, here are the four most pressing questions they’re staring down:
1. How much small ball will Cal have to play?
The Bears’ roster is well suited for small lineups. Arguably their most talented starting group — guards Tyrone Wallace, Jordan Mathews and Jabari Bird, and forwards Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb — doesn’t include a traditional low-post player.
Still, Cuonzo Martin wants to start a center. He played big men Kameron Rooks and Kingsley Okoroh even minutes on Cal’s Australian tour.
