Senior inside linebacker Evan Weaver was selected as a preseason All-American by Phil Steele. Weaver was placed on the second team, he also was a first team preseason All-Pac-12 choice and one of eight Cal players to earn preseason All-Pac-12 honors. Other selections were: Camryn Bynum and Ashtyn Davis on the second team, Luc Bequette, Steven Coutts and Elijah Hicks on the third team, and Jake Curhan and Kuony Deng making the fourth team.
