I believe that even casual fans know that Cal has a very strong swimming programs. It’s what has turned Olympic swimming coverages into Cal ads.
On the women’s side, Teri McKeever, who helmed the Team USA Women’s squad for the 2012 Beijing Olympics (the relationship she build there was why Missy Franklin came to Cal), has done a great job training/creating/luring Calympians. On the men’s side, Dave Durden has managed to matched that impressive feat of training/creating Calympians since his arrival in 2007.
The 2016 Rio Games saw 6 Calympians trained by Durden at Cal winning a total of 11 medals, including 8 Golds - Ryan Murphy, Nathan Adrian, Josh Prenot, Anthony Ervin, Tom Shields, and Jacob Pebley (who finished 5th and didn’t medal).
