Cal rugby are national champions again and finally bested BYU after four attempts to capture their first ever Varsity Cup. After three consecutive losses in the final to BYU and three runner-up finishes, the Bears finally went into Provo and rallied in the second half for a 40-29 win over the Cougars and a national championship!
Lucas Dunne started the scoring for Cal to put the Bears up 5-0 before BYU rolled off 14 in a row. Cal scored just before halftime to cut the lead to 14-12, with the try coming from Zachary Tavenner. BYU got a try and a penalty to go up 24-12 early in the second half, with Michael Bush getting a try to cut it to 24-19.
