Brigham Young Cougars running back Jamaal Williams (21) scores against the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016. BYU won 31-14.
PROVO — Before the season began, BYU’s all-time leading rusher, Harvey Unga, told senior running back Jamaal Williams that he expected Williams to break his record within the first six or seven games.
Williams’ reaction? “He started laughing,” Unga said. “I don’t think he believed that he could have.”
Turns out, Unga could be right. Williams was 930 yards short of the record at the start of the year and he has run for 866 yards through the first six games.
