Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is scheduled to meet with reporters for his monthly news conference Thursday, one day after he hosted U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Purdue.
During his first visit to Utah, Purdue signed a shared stewardship agreement for the 8 million acres of national forest in the state.
Herbert is expected to comment on the agreement, aimed at allowing state and local leaders to have more say in critical decisions involving forestlands, including projects geared toward wildfire prevention.
Herbert has said he won’t seek re-election. But last week, Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox announced he’s in the race and Herbert said he was “excited” about the decision.
