After shooting a first-round 74, Utah's Daniel Summerhays jumped into contention at the U.S. Open Friday with a 5-under-par 65 and stands three shots off the pace set by Dustin Johnson.
Daniel Summerhays shot the best round so far at the U.S. Open with what he called “the round of his life” Friday as he jumped into contention at Oakmont Country Club.
The native of Farmington, who lives in Fruit Heights, fired a 5-under-par 65 and stands at 1-under-par 139 at the halfway point of the weather-plagued tournament, three shots off the lead.
The former BYU golfer may not be that close when the second round is completed Saturday, but he is among the leaders just as he was a year ago at Chambers Bay when he was two shots off the lead after two rounds.
