BYU added some depth to its secondary as Utah State transfer Jakob Robinson announced his commitment to BYU.
Robinson went to Orem High School and signed with Utah State over BYU as part of the 2020 recruiting class. Robinson was rated as a 3-star prospect out of high school.
Robinson played in 4 of 6 Utah State’s 6 games in 2020 and made his first start at free safety against Fresno State. Robinson mainly played cornerback in high school but played both safety and cornerback at Utah State. Under normal circumstances Robinson would have to sit out a year due to transfer rules, but there is a strong chance he plays in 2021 due to either 1) a blanket NCAA transfer waiver starting this year which would allow players to transfer once without sitting or 2) a waiver tied to changes in USU’s coaching staff.
