Gill told The Salt Lake Tribune that attorneys screened the investigation Tuesday, and that the homeowner won’t face charges because he shot the woman, 23-year-old Makayla Yeaman, in self-defense.
The homeowner shot Yeaman about 5:30 a.m. on June 8, when he heard his garage door opening and went downstairs to investigate. In the garage, he found Yeaman. She died at the home, near 6800 W. 7600 South. Police found a knife near her body.
Reached by phone Wednesday, Yeaman’s mother told The Tribune she wasn’t surprised by the decision making, but doesn’t believe the shooting was justified.
