SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s gymnastics team did what it was expected to do Friday night — handily defeat BYU. But even more important than the 196.175-193.85 victory was figuring out how a team comprised of eight underclassmen would handle the season opener.
“It’s a young team, so we didn’t really know what to expect,” said co-head coach Tom Farden. “A lot of them have never seen the floor before, and you have them in front of a crowd of 15,023 for their first experience at Utah — we couldn’t be happier.
