Utah is believed to be the first state to pass a law that prevents parents from being prosecuted for allowing mature kids with good judgement to do things alone, provided they are otherwise cared for. The law, which has attracted national attention for its part in the "free-range parenting" movement, is worded vaguely so that police and prosecutors might evaluate situations on a case-by-case basis.
We want to talk to Utahns who grew up without cellphones, playdates and helicopter parents. What do you think about “free-range parenting” — is it a much-needed return to freedom, or a dangerous lapse in responsibility?
