AUGUSTA, Ga. — Daniel Summerhays and Mike Weir were among the first players on the course at the blustery Masters Thursday morning, and both were happy to get their rounds completed before the wind really picked up.
Summerhays, playing in his first Masters and in the first group of the day, shot a 2-over-par 74 that included perhaps the shot of the day at the famous par-3 12th, hitting his 8-iron to within 6 inches for a tap-in birdie. He also sank a 20-foot birdie putt from off the green at No. 14, but had a pair of disappointing bogeys at 16 and 17 that took him over par for the day.
