Rainy weather has postponed the first day of racing Saturday for the annual Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats east of Wendover.
Bill Lattin, president of the sponsoring Southern California Timing Association, said Saturday that conditions weren’t safe enough to start the speed trials on the famous salt.
He said that race organizers will evaluate the salt each day to make a determination. While it is possible the event could begin Sunday, the more likely scenario is for it to start Monday.
Crews from all over the U.S. and more than a dozen foreign countries are poised to begin racing when conditions permit.
