LAS VEGAS — Only two current BYU players were on the roster the last time the Cougars played in the Las Vegas Bowl in 2009 — seniors Mitch Mathews and Remington Peck.
Neither Mathews nor Peck took the field in that game because they were redshirting.
Now, they’re among the seniors that coach Bronco Mendenhall is counting on to provide leadership during a time of upheaval. Mendenhall and most of his staff will be coaching full-time at Virginia after Saturday’s game against Utah.
“They’ve done a really nice job keeping the team together through some pretty unique circumstances,” Mendenhall said of the senior class.
