An alleged trespasser was shot dead by a security guard outside Utah state government offices in downtown Salt Lake City early Wednesday morning.
According to Salt Lake Police, the shooting happened when the security guard and the trespasser struggled on the plaza at 150 E. 300 South, between the Utah Department of Workforce Services and the Utah Department of Commerce and Labor Commission, shortly before 5:25 a.m.
“My understanding is that during the struggle, it’s possible that the suspect tried to take the gun of the security guard, at which time shots were fired,” said Sgt. Brandon Shearer.
