The area around the homes, near 600 West and 4860 South, had been taped off due to the dangerous and unstable ground, and the road was closed on Wednesday. All the houses in question have backyards facing west that overlook a canyon, which contains railroad tracks and the Weber River Parkway.
A friend of one of the neighbors said that there has been movement in the area for more than a week, but official evacuation orders were not implemented until Tuesday night.
