Pilot killed when plane hits house in Payson

A small plane crashed into a house in Payson early Monday, killing the pilot — but the two occupants of the home escaped without injury despite an explosion and fire that engulfed the structure.

The plane hit the house near 600 East Canyon Road about 2:30 a.m. and exploded, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s office. Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, but no one on the ground was injured. The plane was destroyed.

The identity of the pilot was not released. The plane took off from a Utah airport, according to police, although they did not say which airport.
