The Big 12 will contact schools over the next couple of months to gauge their interest. BYU, Boise State and others hope they will join the ranks of the Power 5.
The Big 12 surprised the college football world Tuesday when it announced that the expansion committee voted unanimously that the conference will look into potential schools that could be added to the Big 12, possibly as soon as 2017.
David Boren, Oklahoma president and chairman of the Big 12 expansion committee, said, “several criteria the Big 12 will be looking for in expansion candidates include strength of the athletic program, competitiveness, fan base, media market, reputation, and academic standing.
