STANFORD, Calif. — BYU couldn't cool the bats of Cal State Fullerton in their opening-round game in NCAA baseball regional play Thursday.
The result was a 13-2 loss to the Titans at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond in Stanford, California, pushing the Cougars into the elimination bracket. BYU will now face the loser of Stanford and Sacramento State on Friday at 2 p.m. MDT (ESPN3) with its season on the line.
Cal State Fullerton (35-21) struck quickly against BYU (37-20), which was making its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2002. The Titans scored three runs in the first inning off four hits, including RBI singles from Timmy Richards and Hank LoForte, and two Cougar errors.
