In the hours after University of Missouri President Tim Wolfe resigned Monday morning after protests directed at him and his administration became national news, various media figures weighed in with their opinions on the situation.

One of the prevailing thoughts to emerge was that the Missouri football team, which had begun to boycott all team activities until Wolfe left or was removed from his post (leaving its game Saturday against BYU in limbo), wielded a great deal of power in the situation.

Yahoo!'s Dan Wetzel wrote that the Tiger players' solidarity was effective because of the increased attention and money involved in collegiate athletics over the last 20 years.
