A former Mormon bishop will lead a march in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday to protest the LDS Church’s practice of closed-door, one-on-one meetings between young members and local lay leaders — which sometimes include intimate questions about moral cleanliness and sexual behavior.
The faith’s governing First Presidency, though, unveiled new guidelines for bishops’ interviews this week, perhaps taking some wind out of the movement. Local leaders in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were previously encouraged to invite a parent or other adult to sit in an adjoining room during the meeting. Now, interviewees can ask a witness to sit in on the interview itself.
