Spanish Fork • The search for Elizabeth Elena Laguna-Salgado is over. Police confirmed that remains found in a remote area of Hobble Creek Canyon are those of the woman who disappeared in Provo in 2015 — and they’re investigating her death as a homicide.
“This is not how we had hoped this would turn out,” said Provo Police Chief Rich Ferguson, who said the case had remained under investigation and his department had devoted “thousands of hours” to the search.
At a press conference on Thursday morning, Utah County Sheriff James Tracy said a citizen had discovered what he believed were human remains in a remote area of the canyon on Friday and called authorities.
