Mia Love’s campaign to refund, redesignate hundreds of thousands of dollars the FEC says it raised illegally

The campaign of Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, says it will refund or redesignate some — but not all — of what the government says was more than $1 million that it raised improperly for a primary election that never occurred, CNN reported Monday.

The Federal Election Commission sent Love a letter in August saying her campaign had violated guidelines for raising money for primaries. In Utah, it said, candidates are not allowed to raise such funds if they have no primary — and Love faced no competition.

In Utah, candidates can raise money for a convention, a primary (if one exists), and for the general election.
