PROVO — Cal finally has its Varsity Cup title — and its revenge over BYU.
After losing to BYU in all three previous Varsity Cup championship games, the Cal Bears stunned the Cougars 40-29 at South Field on Saturday afternoon.
Despite being being heavy underdogs going the Bears will take home their 26th national title. BYU, who went into the game undefeated.
“It was one of the all-time legendary wins in Cal rugby,” head coach Jack Clark told NBC Sports after the game.
BYU was in control of most of the match and built a 29-19 lead with 26 minutes remaining.
