LAS VEGAS — In the end, in his final game as BYU’s coach, Bronco Mendenhall lost his fifth consecutive game to Utah in a 35-28 setback in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Saturday.
And Mendenhall’s 100th career victory at BYU eluded him, as he finished with a 99-43 record in 11 seasons at the helm.
But after the game, an emotional Mendenhall focused on the positives. He watched his team fight back from an early, and seemingly insurmountable, deficit.
“Grateful, humbled, and proud of watching these guys battle after being down 35-0. They just kept going,” Mendenhall said.
