May shows up in Utah with frost, fog

May Day is synonymous with blooming flowers and warm — but not hot — weather. The Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo are almost here to help us transition into summer festival season.

Instead, people in Salt Lake City on Wednesday woke to temperatures in the 30s and thin ice more reminiscent of the Midwest than the West. Flowers were still blooming, if you could see them through the light fog.

Rain is expected in the morning, though the National Weather Service expects the day to improve as it proceeds. It’s calling for a mostly sunny day in Salt Lake City with a high temperature of 53 degrees.
