A man walking on the tracks in downtown Salt Lake City on Wednesday night is in critical condition after he was hit by a commuter train.
A FrontRunner train was approaching the North Temple Station when a conductor spotted the man and struck him seconds later, Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky said.
The man, who was in his 20s, was taken to the hospital in critical condition with head trauma and internal injuries, Arky said.
UTA’s commuter trains take longer to slow down than the light rail TRAX trains, Arky said, and can reach speeds of 79 mph.
