Letter: Utah should ratify the Equal Rights Amendment

Related Topics: Equal Rights Amendment, Utah, Nevada

Nevada became the 36th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, which would amend the U.S. Constitution to ensure that “equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” Two more states and it becomes probable that this important concept is codified in the law of the United States of America.

Nationally, Illinois and Virginia are considered the best shot to get this done. But wouldn’t it be super cool if Utah became the state to push this over the limit? We could show the country, and the world, that Utah isn’t the backwater, stuck in the 19th century, that we are seen to be.
