After losing in a shootout in the semifinals a year ago, the Layton Christian Academy boys’ soccer team redeemed itself with a Class 2A state title on Saturday by winning 2-0 over Rowland Hall-St. Marks at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.
The first two rounds of the tournament came easily for the Eagles, who defeated Parowan 10-0 and Diamond Ranch Academy 8-0. But Layton Christian had to eke out a 2-1 result against Millard in the semifinal round.
Earlier in the day, Judge Memorial High beat Summit Academy 3-2 to take the 3A championship. It marked Judge Memorial’s second consecutive championship in the classification.
