Jordan High student allegedly starts rumor of school shooting plan

A 17-year-old student who allegedly started a rumor that someone was going to shoot up or bomb Jordan High School was arrested Thursday.

A rumor that five students were planning a shooting at the school circulated on social media — primarily through the messaging app Snapchat — on Jan 26, Canyons School District spokesman Jeff Haney said at the time.

Principal Wendy Dau sent an email to parents early that morning, saying police had investigated the threat and that officials believe it was “unfounded.”

Extra law enforcement officers were posted at the school and in surrounding neighborhoods as a precaution throughout the day, Haney said.
