An inmate at the Salt Lake County jail died Saturday after what the sheriff’s office described as an “altercation” with another prisoner.
Daniel Davis later died at a hospital from his injuries, according to a news release from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, which oversees the jail. The release didn’t specify why Davis was in jail or whether his death is considered a homicide. Sheriff Rosie Rivera was scheduled to speak about the death at noon.
The news release said about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Davis and another inmate “engaged in an altercation” in a housing unit.
