At least he didn’t shoot an 80 like Rickie Fowler or seven-putt a hole like Ernie Els did at No. 1 Thursday.
But Mike Weir would have liked better than the 76 he shot in the first round of the Masters Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club.
The former BYU golfer and Masters champ is in a tie for 59th place, so with a better round on Friday, he could make the cut, which includes the top 50 golfers, plus golfers within 10 strokes of the lead. Weir is 10 strokes behind leader Jordan Spieth.
In his opening round, Weir birdied both of the front-nine par-5s at 2 and 8 but made bogeys at 3, 5, 7, 10, 14 and 17.
