Former BYU assistant coach Mark Atuaia followed Bronco Mendenhall to Virginia to coach running backs on the finer points of running away from defenders.
But when a driver in Florida hit a woman in front of Atuaia and drove off while he was on a recruiting trip, his mind shifted to stopping the run.
According to a story from the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Atuaia stopped at a grocery store for a snack. As he was leaving, he witnessed a car hit a woman before fleeing the scene.
Atuaia chased the hit and run driver, pinning the other car at a stop light with his rental car until a security guard from the shopping center took over.
