The executive director of a prominent LGBTQ advocacy organization resigned from the Governor’s Youth Suicide Task Force on Wednesday in protest of the governor’s support for changes to a proposed ban on so-called conversation therapy in Utah.
Troy Williams publicly released his resignation letter to Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, saying he was initially honored to participate but has come to realize that Herbert’s administration is not serious about addressing the issues that contribute to the suicide rates of LGBTQ youths.
“It is clear you have no interest in keeping your promise, nor are you interested in the plight of LGBTQ youth,” Williams wrote.
