Driver and dog killed on Utah's Bangerter Highway when shots came from another vehicle

As a van headed south on Bangerter Highway on Thursday night, another vehicle approached it.

When the van slowed to make a righthand turn onto westbound 4100 South, a shooter from the other vehicle took aim. The shooter fired at least one shot that struck the driver and a dog, leaving both dead near the intersection, said West Valley Police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the van was still on Bangerter or had completed the turn onto 4100 South, she said.

There were other passengers in the van, which belonged to the driver, Vainuku said, but no one else was hurt from the shooting.
