It’s unclear when the Utah firefighters would leave. Joe Dougherty, a spokesman for the Utah Division of Emergency Management, said Monday morning the crews could begin driving west in 24 to 48 hours.
It’s also unclear which departments would send the firefighters or how many would actually go. Dougherty said Utah officials were assessing whether they could accommodate the request.
The Lone Peak Fire District said on its Facebook page that its crew had already arrived in Sonoma, Calif., where the Kincade Fire is burning. Niles Easton, a spokesman for the Unified Fire Authority, which protects much of Salt Lake County, said in an email it would be sending firefighters to California, but it had not yet determined how many or when.
