At last, BYU’s 2016 football season is getting underway and not a minute too soon. Was that an eventful offseason or what? It had more drama than a night out with Johnny Manziel.

Bronco Mendenhall quit and moved to Virginia, with his staff. There was the search for his replacement, which turned out to be Ken Niumatalolo — no, wait, Kalani Sitake, a former BYU player. There was the search for a staff, which resulted in an odd collection of inexperienced former BYU players. There was Taysom Hill, recovering from his latest injury and getting drawn into a quarterback controversy no one would have thought possible a year earlier.
