Five Utahns have experienced “serious breathing problems” that may be related to vaping or “other inhalational drugs,” and the state health department is investigating.
The patients suffered shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain and coughing — symptoms that worsened for several days or weeks, according to the Utah Department of Health. All five were hospitalized, and some needed assistance to breathe.
While their conditions have improved, the longterm effects on their health are “unknown,” according to the department.
The cases are similar to several reported in other states, including Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. According to a new release, Utah health officials are working with national partners, local health departments and clinicians to identify the cause of these “severe illnesses.
