Every year but two over the last 50 years, at least one golfer with Utah ties has played in the U.S. Open.
Starting today, when many of the top golfers in the world tee it up at the Erin Hills Golf Club in Wisconsin, the state will be represented by just one Utahn, Farmington’s Daniel Summerhays.
Summerhays tees off Thursday at 11:52 a.m. (MDT) in a group with Japan's Satoshi Kodaira and France’s Alexander Levy off the No. 10 tee. The 33-year-old former BYU all-American earned a spot in this year’s Open by finishing in a tie for eighth place at last year’s U.
