AUGUSTA, Ga. — Through the first two rounds of the Masters, few golfers hit the ball as straight as Utah native Daniel Summerhays, who ranked in a tie for fifth in the field for driving accuracy at 82 percent.
Then suddenly, just when he seemed to be rolling Saturday afternoon, with back-to-back birdies on the back nine, Summerhays’ driving abandoned him and he started missing fairways left and right, literally, but mostly left.
Summerhays went 2-over on his final five holes and didn’t give himself a chance at a birdie at the par-5 15th hole, which left him with a disappointing 75 at Augusta National.
