PROVO — In the BYU locker room after the Cougars’ 51-9 thumping of UMass Saturday afternoon, coach Kalani Sitake handed the game ball to Ed Lamb.
That’s because one of Lamb’s many roles on the coaching staff is special teams coordinator.
And BYU’s special teams came up big against the Minutemen with a blocked punt and two fumble recoveries on kickoffs.
“They’ve been strong all year long. You look at what Ed Lamb’s done with special teams,” Sitake said. “Our cover team has been really good. We gave up one really bad return but it was a missed assignment.
