MALIBU, Calif. — BYU coach Dave Rose and Pepperdine coach Lorenzo Romar have a longstanding friendship that goes back quite a while.
“I’ve known Lorenzo for probably 25 years. Maybe close to 30,” Rose said. “When I was coaching at Dixie, he recruited our guys a lot. We played him in here when I was first here (at BYU). I remember Bart Jepsen hit a little baseline jumper in the Cougar Classic to beat Pepperdine (in 1997).”
There’s mutual respect between Rose and Romar, who is in the first year of his second stint as the Waves’ head coach.
