PROVO — BYU was on the cusp of a national ranking for weeks.
So the Cougars just kept winning.
After 15 wins in a row and an outright claim to the West Coast Conference championship, BYU has broken into the USA Today Coaches Poll at No. 22.
Last week, the Cougars were the top vote-receiving team outside of the top 25 in the same poll. On Thursday, they beat the San Diego Toreros, who had bested them on Dec. 23, to wrap up the WCC crown.
BYU is still outside of the top 25 in the AP poll, receiving the second-most votes of unranked teams.
