BYU volleyball: Cougars beat Long Beach State, advance to national championship game

State College, Pa. • BYU's No. 1-ranked men's volleyball team is going to the national championship game.

Using strong serving and some timely defense, the Cougars rolled past Long Beach State 3-1 on Thursday in an NCAA Tournament semifinal match at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State University.

The scores were 25-21, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-18.

The Cougars improved to 27-3 and will take on the winner of the late UCLA-Ohio State match on Saturday at 6 p.m. MDT. The match will be televised by ESPN2.

Brenden Sander led the Cougars with 14 kills and Ben Patch added 13, including the match-winner, as the Cougars hit .
